One conflict resolution system is called STLC, which stands for :
STOP
THINK
LISTEN
COMMUNICATE
By following these four steps, you can often resolve interpersonal conflict using basic communicatiom skills.

Step 1: STOP
When you realize that a conflict exist, begin by telling yourself  to "stop". Don't overreact to the other person.  Remember taht you have a choice about how to respond.  Behaviors that help you stop include taking a breath and letting it out slowly, drinking a glass of water or some other beverage, and sitting down asking the other person sit as well.

Step 2 : THINK
Before you act, ask yourself what is going on. Is the conflict really about you, or is someone just blowing off some steam?.  Remind yourself not to take the conflict too personally but to wait and hear the other person out.

Step 3: LISTEN
Most people tend to justify themselves the moment they hear critism rather than really listen to what the other person is saying.  The ability to truly hear what the other is saying is as important as what we say in conflict.

Step 4 : COMMUNICATE
Decided what approach to the conflict you will take and then speak.  You can try to avoid the conflict, accommodate the other person, compromise, compete, or collaborate.  The important point is that you need to decide what you will do rather than simply react to the other person.
